For a steering box try a late 60's Cougar. Two of the three mounting holes supposedly a perfect match, you have to drill the third hole.

What kind of front brakes and master cylinder are you using. If you are using a stock master and have drum brakes all around, you don't need a residual valve because the master already has one.

There are a number of guys on FORDBARN that swear by using vinegar. They fill the system, run it a while (On the road) then dump it. Supposed to clean out everything.

I've used silicone fluid in my 48 for 20 years - absolutely zero problems with it. I recommend it, especially since it stops the car and doesn't eat paint.
